“Way 2 Sexy” leans directly on Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy,” interpolating the 1991 novelty hit’s hook into a modern trap beat. It’s a fitting sample for a song where Drake, Future, and Young Thug trade bars about being unbothered by their own hype — the kind of self-aware braggadocio that only works if the visual doesn’t take itself seriously either. Serving as the lead single off Certified Lover Boy, the track set the tone for an album Drake had been teasing for months before its full release.

A Parody Reel, Not a Flex Video

Instead of the usual private-jet-and-champagne aesthetic, Meyers structures the video as a string of comedic set pieces. Drake gets animated into a cartoonish, Popeye-style strongman. A fitness sequence riffs on Eric Prydz’s “Call on Me,” one of the more parodied music videos of the 2000s in its own right. There’s even a straight-faced action-movie bit thrown in for good measure. The video’s centerpiece drops Drake, Future, and Young Thug into matching all-white outfits as a boy band clearly modeled on the Backstreet Boys, complete with beach and desert backdrops straight out of a late-’90s teen-pop video. Joining the choreography is Kawhi Leonard, the two-time NBA Finals MVP who led the Toronto Raptors to their 2019 championship before signing with the LA Clippers. Leonard performing synchronized dance moves alongside three of hip-hop’s biggest names is the moment the video was built around, and it’s the one clip that made the rounds the fastest.

Nathan Rodgers edited at Cabin Edit, Stefan Sonnenfeld handled color at Company 3, Mod Creations supplied the visual effects, and the animated segments came from Blinkink. It’s the same level of craft Meyers brought to “Laugh Now Cry Later,” just pointed at total absurdity instead of cinematic drama this time.

“Way 2 Sexy” landed as the first taste of Certified Lover Boy’s rollout, and the boy-band bit with Kawhi Leonard immediately became the clip everyone clipped and shared on its own. For a song sampling a 30-year-old novelty hit, that’s about as good a launch as a lead single gets.
