Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie, “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood,” takes audiences on a journey back to the swinging sixties in Los Angeles. Set in 1969, the film follows the lives of fading TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they navigate a changing Hollywood landscape.
The movie’s plot centers around the infamous Manson Family murders, which took place in August of 1969. However, Tarantino takes his own unique approach to the story by reimagining the events of that fateful night. In this version, Dalton and Booth are able to intervene and save the life of Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), the real-life actress who was murdered by the Manson Family.
The film’s attention to detail is impeccable, as Tarantino lovingly recreates the look and feel of 1960s Hollywood. The costumes, sets, and music all transport the audience to another time and place, and the result is a feast for the eyes and ears.
The acting in “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” is top-notch, with both DiCaprio and Pitt turning in incredible performances. DiCaprio’s character is struggling with his fading fame, while Pitt’s Booth is a laid-back, carefree spirit who keeps things balanced. The chemistry between the two actors is fantastic, and their scenes together are some of the highlights of the movie.
Robbie, despite having a relatively small amount of screen time, is a joy to watch as Sharon Tate. Her portrayal of the actress is sweet, earnest, and full of life, making her fate all the more tragic.
While “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” is a great film overall, it is not without its flaws. The pacing can be slow at times, and the runtime may feel a bit too long for some viewers. Additionally, some of the movie’s subplots feel underdeveloped and could have benefited from more screen time.
Despite these minor issues, “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” is a triumph of storytelling and filmmaking. Tarantino has crafted a love letter to Hollywood that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, and it is a must-see for anyone who loves movies.
