Hollywood’s 2019 blacklist reads like a highlight reel of scandal, self-sabotage and box office disaster.

Some actors get uninvited from the industry over a single tweet. Others get erased from a finished film entirely. As 2019 approaches, a handful of once-bankable names are finding the phone has stopped ringing, and the reasons range from criminal allegations to just being difficult to work with. The Roseanne Meltdown

Barr’s sitcom revival was one of the biggest comeback stories in television, pulling in enormous ratings for ABC’s relaunch. That ended on a single morning in May 2018, when Barr fired off a tweet reading “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” aimed directly at Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to President Obama. ABC didn’t wait for a statement — the network canceled the show outright the same day.

Barr tried to walk it back, first claiming she’d been “Ambien tweeting,” then posting an expletive-filled video attempting to explain herself further. Neither did much good. Wanda Sykes quit as a producer, and cast members including Sara Gilbert and Emma Kenney condemned the remarks publicly. ABC eventually rebuilt the show without her as The Conners, leaving Barr on the outside of a series that carries her own name. Louis C.K. and Kevin Spacey represent the two starkest casualties of the #MeToo reckoning that swept through Hollywood in late 2017 and carried into 2018. C.K. admitted to the sexual misconduct allegations reported against him, and the fallout was immediate: a film release was pulled, TV deals dried up, and the distributor of his projects halted everything tied to his name.

Spacey’s collapse was even more dramatic. After multiple sexual assault and harassment allegations surfaced, Netflix fired him from House of Cards, a show built around his lead performance. Ridley Scott went a step further on All the Money in the World, completely removing Spacey from the finished film and reshooting his role with Christopher Plummer only weeks before its theatrical release — an unprecedented move for a major studio picture already in the can.

Bella Thorne’s Stalled Momentum

Not every name on Hollywood’s cold shoulder list involves a scandal. Bella Thorne’s issue, according to the reporting, is reputation and box office. While her former Disney Channel co-star Zendaya has climbed into major studio franchises, Thorne has been dogged by reports of diva behavior and difficult set dynamics, paired with a run of films that simply haven’t drawn audiences. For now, the young Han Solo is stuck waiting on a franchise that isn’t sure it wants a sequel.
