How does the look of Gotham City in “The Batman” compare to previous versions of the city in other Batman films?
On August 26th, 2020, DC Comics released a trailer for the upcoming film “The Batman.” The trailer has since received over 46 million views on YouTube, and fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the film.
The trailer opens with an eerie score as we see the iconic Batman symbol cut into a building. We then see a close-up of a masked figure, who we can assume is Batman, fiddling with his utility belt. We hear a news anchor discussing the “new” Batman, indicating that this film will likely take place at the beginning of Batman’s career as a vigilante.
The trailer then gives us our first glimpse of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He is seen in a sleek, new Batmobile, speeding down a dark alley. We see him donning his cowl and getting ready for what appears to be a fight.
But the trailer isn’t just about Batman. We are introduced to Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, played by Zoë Kravitz. She is seen in a tight-fitting suit, standing on a rooftop. She turns around to see Batman and says, “Who are you supposed to be?” The two have an instant chemistry, which leads fans to believe that their relationship will play a significant role in the film.
The trailer also introduces us to several other characters, including Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin), played by Colin Farrell. We also see glimpses of Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), Alfred (Andy Serkis), and Carmine Falcone (John Turturro).
One of the things that stood out in the trailer was the look of Gotham City. It appears to be a darker, grittier version than what we have seen in previous Batman films. The filmmakers used real locations in the UK, including Liverpool and Glasgow, to give the city a realistic, urban feel.
The trailer ends with a shot of The Riddler’s (Paul Dano) card and a message written in code: “What does a liar do when he’s dead?” Fans have been speculating about what this means and how it will tie into the plot of the film.
Overall, the trailer for “The Batman” has fans excited about what’s to come. It seems to be a different take on the character, one that is darker and more grounded in reality. The relationship between Batman and Catwoman is something fans are looking forward to, and the rest of the supporting cast seems promising as well. Only time will tell if “The Batman” lives up to fans’ high expectations, but for now, the trailer has fans optimistic about what’s to come.
