The reality TV landscape is stuffed with performers, nearly all of whom began as unknowns.
As the seasons roll on, some of those featured on these series become fan favorites and celebrities in their own right. However, as many of these people are still on the way up, they’re subject to intense pressures, without the safety nets that established stars often enjoy. As a result, the world of reality TV has lost many past stars over the years, many of whom passed away due to disease or substance abuse issues. We’ve researched a list of many of these individuals, some of whom you’re sure to have watched during their respective seasons. These are reality TV stars you didn’t know were dead.

1. Ryan Knight
Known for his charismatic personality and good looks, Ryan Knight made a name for himself on MTV’s The Real World: New Orleans. He also appeared on Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Island and Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Battle of the Exes II. Sadly, Knight passed away in 2014 at the age of 29. His cause of death was named as a mixed drug intoxication.
2. Gia Allemand
Gia Allemand was a model and TV personality who appeared on the 14th season of The Bachelor. She was also a contestant on Bachelor Pad. In 2013, the 29-year-old Allemand took her own life by hanging herself inside her New Orleans apartment. It was reported that she had been dealing with personal issues before her death.
3. Joey Kovar
Joey Kovar appeared on MTV’s The Real World: Hollywood and later on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. He had struggled with drug abuse and addiction for many years. In 2012, Kovar was found dead in his friend’s home after a suspected overdose.
4. Shane Landrum
Shane Landrum was a contestant on the hit reality TV series Road Rules. He also appeared on Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno II and Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II. In 2014, Landrum passed away at the young age of 29. The cause of his death has been described as a possible alcohol-related incident.
5. Angela Raiola
Angela “Big Ang” Raiola was a staple of the reality TV show Mob Wives. She quickly became a fan favorite due to her larger-than-life personality and attitude. Unfortunately, Raiola passed away in 2016 after a long battle with cancer.
