Jacob Tremblay turned Jimmy Fallon’s desk into his own impression stage.

The 12-year-old star of Room and Wonder sat down on the August 5, 2019, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his upcoming R-rated comedy Good Boys, and he barely got through a sentence before breaking into character. Between plugging the Seth Rogen-produced film, Tremblay ran through a full set of vocal impressions and backstage stories that had Fallon nearly falling out of his chair.

A Seth Rogen Impression Straight Off the Good Boys Set

Tremblay spent months working alongside Rogen, who produced Good Boys through his Point Grey Pictures banner, and it clearly gave him plenty of material. His Rogen bit leaned entirely on that unmistakable gravel in the voice and the trademark cackle, which Tremblay recreated with unnerving accuracy for a kid who’d only recently hit puberty. Fallon, who has hosted plenty of guests trying to nail a celebrity voice, couldn’t keep a straight face through it.

Not content with one impression, Tremblay pivoted straight into Arnold Schwarzenegger, dropping his voice into that clipped Austrian cadence for Fallon. It’s a bit that’s been done by countless comedians and late-night guests over the years, but coming from a middle-schooler mid-interview, it hit differently — Fallon egged him on for more, and Tremblay obliged.

Tremblay also walked Fallon through one of his more embarrassing Hollywood moments: mistaking Tobey Maguire for his own lawyer at the Academy Awards. The story played as a reminder of just how surreal it is for a kid actor to suddenly be rubbing shoulders with A-listers at the industry’s biggest night, with faces blurring together when you’re 12 and surrounded by people in tuxedos.

The Case for Prince Eric

Before wrapping up, Tremblay made his pitch for why he, not Harry Styles, should have landed the role of Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid remake — a role that had been the subject of casting speculation involving the former One Direction singer.
