Cambry and I put an Elevator IN OUR HOUSE!! And it is awesome.

Fully electric, futuristic, and quiet. The lift took a few days to install. About 2 days for the construction and framing, and another 2 days for the lift assembly. But I think it turned out pretty cool. Lifts can be expensive. This one has quite a few safety features that I talk about in the video. Safety is in our like…. top five priorities over here. Obviously. Making a home accessible after a spinal cord injury is not impossible! There are plenty of options out there.

What are the minimum requirements for space and ceiling height to install an elevator in your living room?

Installing an elevator in your living room can add a luxurious touch to your home, while also providing practical benefits for those who have mobility issues or simply want to avoid climbing stairs. However, this is not a simple DIY project and requires careful planning and professional installation. In this article, we will go over the steps you need to take to successfully install an elevator in your living room.

Step 1: Measure and prepare the space

The first step in installing an elevator in your living room is to measure the space and make sure it is suitable for installation. You need at least a 5-foot by 5-foot area to install a small elevator, but larger elevators will require more space. The space should also have a ceiling height of at least 8 feet to accommodate the elevator car and any overhead components.

Once you have measured the space, you need to prepare it for installation. This may include removing any furniture or decor in the area, as well as making sure the floor is level and free of any obstacles.

Step 2: Choose the right type of elevator

There are different types of elevators available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. The most common types are hydraulic and traction elevators. Hydraulic elevators are generally easier and more cost-effective to install, while traction elevators are typically more energy-efficient and provide a smoother ride.

You also need to consider the weight and capacity of the elevator. You want to make sure it can handle the weight of the people who will be using it, as well as any furniture or equipment that may need to be moved.

Step 3: Hire a professional installer

Installing an elevator is not a DIY project. You need to hire a licensed, experienced professional installer who can ensure that the elevator is installed safely and meets all building codes and regulations.

When choosing an installer, make sure to check their credentials and ask for references. You should also ask for a written estimate of the installation costs and timeline.

Step 4: Obtain necessary permits and approvals

Before you can install an elevator in your living room, you need to obtain the necessary permits and approvals from your local government. This may include building permits, zoning approvals, and inspections to ensure that the elevator meets all safety and accessibility requirements. Your installer should be able to assist you with this process.

Step 5: Install and test the elevator

Once you have obtained all the necessary permits and approvals, your installer can begin the installation process. This will typically involve drilling a hole in the floor and ceiling, as well as installing the elevator car and any necessary components such as the control panel and motor.

Once the elevator is installed, your installer will test it to ensure that it is working properly and safely. You will also receive training on how to operate the elevator and maintain it over time.

In conclusion, installing an elevator in your living room can be a great way to add convenience and accessibility to your home. However, this is not a simple project and requires careful planning, professional installation, and obtaining the necessary permits and approvals. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can successfully install an elevator in your living room and enjoy its benefits for years to come.
