The zombie apocalypse just crashed a game of Red Light, Green Light.

Smosh Games dropped Episode 3 of its Smosh Summer Games: Apocalypse tournament on July 26, 2019, and this time the childhood classic got a *Mad Max*-by-way-of-*The 100* makeover. Instead of a referee shouting colors, competitors had to outmaneuver costumed zombie actors on an outdoor course in Barstow, California, with real tournament points and Lasercorn’s undefeated Seasonal Games streak riding on the outcome.

• Mushroom Clout (pink) beat ToxiciTea (green) in the “Dead Light Green Light” challenge, notching their first win of the tournament.
• ToxiciTea entered Episode 3 with a 2-0 lead, having already won the “Punishment Zombie Shootout” and the “Spilling the Tea / Nuclear Family Feud” showdown.
• Kimmy Jimenez filled in as a guest competitor after Sohinki couldn’t make the shoot due to traveling in Italy, rounding out the eleven-person cast.

The Setup in Barstow

The desert location wasn’t just scenery — Barstow’s flat, sun-scorched terrain gave the *Smosh Summer Games: Apocalypse* season its wasteland backdrop, leaning hard into the *Mad Max* and *The 100* aesthetic that Smosh built the tournament around. Season sponsor Borderlands 3 fit the vibe naturally, given its own post-apocalyptic loot-shooter setting. Against that backdrop, the eleven-person roster — Ian Hecox, Shayne Topp, Courtney Miller, Damien Haas, Keith Leak Jr., Noah Grossman, Olivia Sui, Mari Takahashi, David “Lasercorn” Moss, Joshua “Jovenshire” Ovenshire, and Wes Johnson, plus Jimenez — split into Mushroom Clout and ToxiciTea for a three-episode grind toward tournament points.

The Mechanics of Dead Light

The twist on the traditional game was simple to explain and brutal to execute. Players had to cross an outdoor course to a finish line while zombie actors patrolled the field, and instead of a caller yelling “red light,” the zombies themselves dictated when it was safe to move. Get caught shifting on a “dead light” and a costumed zombie was right there to make the point.

Move on the wrong light, and there’s already a zombie standing over your shoulder.

That mechanic turned the challenge into as much a nerve test as a footrace — competitors had to read zombie positioning and body language in real time rather than wait for a single verbal cue, which is exactly the kind of format Smosh has leaned on in other physically chaotic challenge videos like World’s Most Dangerous Escape Room!.

Mushroom Clout Snaps the Skid

Down 0-2 in the tournament standings, Mushroom Clout needed a win just to stay in the conversation, and they got it in the desert. Taking the “Dead Light Green Light” challenge gave the pink team their first points of the season and cut into ToxiciTea’s early cushion heading into the rest of the *Apocalypse* run.

The win also mattered for the season’s biggest running storyline: Lasercorn’s Streak. David “Lasercorn” Moss has never lost a Seasonal Games tournament, and every episode this summer has doubled as a referendum on whether that streak survives.
