Adult Swim drops a 49-second grenade at Comic-Con, and Rick isn’t even in the room.

Adult Swim used San Diego Comic-Con 2019 to hand fans their first real look at “Rick and Morty” Season 4, and it didn’t come from Rick at all. The 49-second clip, titled “Rick and Morty Season 4: Glootie,” dropped on July 19, 2019, and centers on Morty and Jerry cornering a new alien character in Rick’s garage. No Rick, no portal gun, just Morty losing his patience and an intern from another planet who won’t take a hint.

The Scene Adult Swim Chose to Show

He smashes Glootie’s laptop onto the floor, demands the app be pulled offline immediately, and grabs the alien by the throat when he doesn’t get an instant yes. The Ominous Beeping App

Glootie doesn’t back down. He insists he’s going to develop the app anyway and triggers a device from his jumpsuit that starts beeping, high-pitched and accelerating. Morty and Jerry immediately assume the worst, screaming “bomb” and diving behind a couch — with Jerry using his own son as a human shield in the panic. Glootie casually defuses it, revealing the noise isn’t an explosive at all.

Taika Waititi’s New Alien

Glootie’s look is straight out of the show’s usual design playbook — pinkish-purple skin, four eyes, and a handlebar-mustache-shaped facial feature, with that “DO NOT DEVELOP MY APP” warning stamped right on his forehead like a factory recall sticker. Taika Waititi, fresh off directing “Thor: Ragnarok,” voices him with the kind of unbothered, submissive calm that makes the character funnier the more Morty escalates. When Morty finally levels a laser gun at him and orders him to lead them to his mothership so it can be shut down, Glootie just complies, no fight left in him at all.

A Season Built Around the Wait

This was one of the first official pieces of Season 4 footage fans had seen since the show went on its long hiatus following Season 3, and Adult Swim used it to signal a specific dynamic rather than a plot dump: Jerry and Morty operating in the garage with Rick nowhere in sight.
