As a young Disney Channel actress turned successful pop singer, Selena Gomez has undoubtedly made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Her music has earned her numerous accolades, including American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards. Additionally, her acting credentials include Disney Channel hits like Wizards of Waverly Place and starring roles in movies like Spring Breakers and The Fundamentals of Caring.
However, not everyone is a fan of Gomez’s work or personality. In fact, there are several celebrities who have spoken out about their dislike of the singer. Here are a few of the most notable individuals who can’t stand Selena Gomez.
1. Stefano Gabbana – The fashion designer made headlines in 2018 when he commented on a photo of Selena Gomez wearing a racy red dress. He wrote, “She’s so ugly!!!” in the comments section, igniting a wave of backlash from fans on social media. Gabbana later defended his comments, saying that his account had been hacked, but many people were skeptical.
2. Demi Lovato – Although they were once close friends, Demi Lovato has made it clear that she and Gomez are no longer on speaking terms. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Lovato said that she didn’t think Gomez was a true friend and that their relationship was “weird.”
3. Katy Perry – Though she hasn’t spoken out directly against Gomez, Katy Perry has been accused of shading the singer on more than one occasion. In a 2013 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Perry said that she preferred using her own voice to perform, rather than lip syncing like Gomez supposedly does. Additionally, in 2017, Perry made a thinly veiled reference to Gomez’s relationship with Justin Bieber in a cryptic tweet.
4. Miley Cyrus – Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez were once Disney Channel stars together, but they don’t exactly see eye to eye these days. In a 2014 interview with a French magazine, Cyrus said that she didn’t think Gomez was a “true feminist” because she had worked with Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexual misconduct. Cyrus later apologized for her comments.
5. Lorde – In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Lorde criticized Gomez’s hit song “Come & Get It,” saying that it didn’t promote a positive message for young women. “I’m a feminist and the theme of her song is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me,'” Lorde said. “I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.”
