1. Daniel Radcliffe – Harry Potter
As a child, Daniel Radcliffe was thrust into the spotlight with his role as the titular character in the Harry Potter franchise. The eight movies were a smash success, grossing over $7 billion worldwide. However, as Radcliffe grew up, the pressure of being associated with the wizarding world began to wear on him. “There’s always going to be a bit of you that goes, ‘Oh, no. It’s that guy from Harry Potter,'” Radcliffe said in an interview with Playboy.
2. Robert Pattinson – Twilight
Robert Pattinson became a teenage heartthrob after playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight series. However, the actor has been vocal about his disdain for the movies. In an interview with The New York Times, Pattinson called the Twilight saga “weird” and “a massive juggernaut that doesn’t even exist.”
3. Sean Connery – James Bond
Sean Connery played James Bond in seven movies, cementing his place as a Hollywood icon. However, as his career progressed, Connery became frustrated with the character that made him a star. In an interview in the 1980s, Connery called Bond “a cardboard cut-out to some extent,” and said that his portrayal of the character had “undermined” his acting career.

Katherine Heigl rose to fame with her role as Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens on the hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. However, the actress left the show in 2010, and in the years since, has been forthright about her issues with the series. In a 2016 interview with Howard Stern, Heigl called her decision to leave Grey’s Anatomy “an active decision,” and described her experience on the show as “cruel.”
5. Shia LaBeouf – Transformers
Shia LaBeouf starred in three Transformers movies, which were all massive box-office hits. However, the actor has since distanced himself from the franchise. In an interview with USA Today, LaBeouf said that he thought the movies had “no heart,” and that he “didn’t like the movies” he was in.
In conclusion, while it might seem counterintuitive for actors to hate the thing that made them famous, it’s not all that uncommon. From Harry Potter to Transformers to Grey’s Anatomy, actors have been known to express their displeasure with the roles that they’ll forever be associated with. However, it’s also worth noting that many of these stars are still grateful for the opportunities that these roles provided them.
