The Kardashian-Jenner clan built an empire on being everywhere at once, but that omnipresence has a cost. Neighbors, editors, and even a CNN anchor have all drawn a line at some point, banning the family outright or quietly making sure they never got an invite in the first place. Here’s a rundown of six specific instances where someone said no to the Kardashians — and, in one case, where a Kardashian-Jenner said no to her own sisters.

Production Crews Get Turned Away

Filming a reality show requires signed permits, cooperative property owners, and a neighborhood willing to tolerate a camera crew and a paparazzi swarm for weeks at a time. The Kardashians have struck out on both counts more than once. During the 2014 shoot for “Kourtney and Khloé Take the Hamptons,” several of the area’s most prestigious restaurants and venues refused to let the production film on-site, and local residents pushed back hard enough on the disruption that the crew relocated shoots to the less exclusive Hamptons Bays.

The same problem hit “Kourtney & Kim Take Miami” in 2012. South Beach neighbors declined to sign off on the necessary filming permits, effectively locking the crew out of the neighborhood altogether. Production had to pack up and move to a gated property in North Miami Beach to finish the season, well away from the strip the show was supposedly about.

Hollywood’s Own Velvet Rope

It’s not just homeowners’ associations. Raleigh Studios reportedly banned the Kardashians from its invite-only Oscar viewing parties after reports circulated of Kris Jenner’s heavily intoxicated behavior at past events — the kind of story that fits neatly alongside other controversial celeb moments that follow a family this famous.

Anderson Cooper drew his own line without the family even being in the room. During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live,” Cooper’s assistant answered on his behalf during a trivia segment, naming the Kardashians as the one group he’d never book on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360.” It was a blunt, on-air rejection from a network anchor who clearly wanted no part of the family’s brand of headline-making.

Anna Wintour’s Long-Standing Embargo

For years, Kim Kardashian couldn’t get near the Met Gala. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour reportedly viewed her as fundamentally unsuited for the event’s high-fashion pedigree and kept her off the guest list.
